Coming in from out of town? No sweat. We have a number of options for transportation and lodging as well as well as things to see and do in the area while you are in town.
Transit
If you don’t live too far away from Altoona, your easiest option is to drive in. But if you’re coming from farther away, driving may not be your first option.
Train: Amtrak runs a train into Altoona. The train comes westbound from New York and Philadelphia or eastbound from Chicago and Pittsburgh. www.amtrak.com
Air: There are several airports that service nearby, depending on your preferences and budget. The closest airports are Altoona/Blair-County (AOO) in Martinsburg or University Park (UNV) in State College. For larger airports, Pittsburgh (PIT) and Harrisburg (MDT) are about two hours away, and Baltimore (BWI) and Washington Dulles (IAD) are about three hours away.
Lodging
For your convenience, we have reserved a block of rooms at the Comfort Inn in Duncansville. The hotel is centrally located between Hollidaysburg, Duncansville, and Altoona and is about five minutes from the Casino at Lakemont and about fifteen minutes from Canoe Creek State Park. Call them at (814) 693-1800 to reserve your room today.

Things to Do
Since the wedding is in the middle of a long weekend, we invite you to extend your stay and enjoy the area. Canoe Creek, Trough Creek, and Blue Knob are among my favorite state parks to get away and enjoy the natural and scenic beauty of central Pennsylvania. All three parks offer terrific birding and wildlife viewing opportunities, excellent hiking, scenic views, streams, and waterfalls. The Altoona Railroader’s Museum, the Horseshoe Curve, and the Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS are all great historic attractions to learn about the town’s roots in the railroad industry. Visit Lakemont Park and ride the world’s oldest wooden roller coaster still in operation. Go to VisitPA.com for more ideas or pick up a tourist information brochure when you get into town.
Camping
There is no camping at Canoe Creek State Park. There are some nearby state parks with camping available. Trough Creek and Blue Knob are two of my favorites, but Prince Gallitzin is also nearby. There are also several campgrounds near Lake Raystown, some run by the Army Corps of Engineers, and others run privately. There may be some private campgrounds closer to Hollidaysburg. Check ahead for availability as it is a holiday weekend.
Rehearsal Dinner and Memorial Day Brunch
There will be a rehearsal dinner Saturday evening at Canoe Creek State Park. The dinner will be a casual (dress-nice) picnic with delicious ethnic cuisine. Meet at Pavilion 1 around 5:00pm. (Map of CCSP)
There is no official brunch on Monday. We’ll be at the hotel through the morning and headed to Bedford Springs in the evening. We may stick around for Memorial Day festivities for those who will still be around.
